Artist Statement: The tale is an extremely condensed version of a single tale from John Payne’s 1886 translation of the Decameron. I have spent more than thirty years creating books, as a book conservator, design binder and book artist. As time passes, I am less and less clear of my intentions when creating a new book. Each book is an enigma, an abstract design, an evocative object to be handled and examined by readers as they explore myriad cryptic meanings leaf by leaf.
